Domestic violence conviction

Post by Gearman » 26 Dec 2015 15:00

Hello
4 years ago I pled no contest during court proceedings after a DV arrest.
Not proud to admit this but now with the things happening in our society and the reaction of the liberal government in Washington, I feel the need to exercise my 2nd amendment rights.

How will my record affect my ability to legally own a handgun?

Thank You
Merry Christmas

I'll have to look it up but I am pretty sure that a CHP is out without getting that off your back.

Thanks herohog. I really didn't know who to ask or where to ask until I stumbled upon this site. If I get some good info and I'm able to own a hand gun legally then I will get info on handgun training for my area.

See the Federal Gun Transfer Form 4473 here, specifically, 11.i and read the instruction for 11.i on the back.

If THAT makes you a "Prohibited person" then private sales are off the table now too. As far as guns already owned? I dunno. Either way, get thee to a lawyer.

I strongly suspect that as well. Were I in his shoes, I would not want John Law finding me near ANY guns...

Again, you need to see a lawyer and get a LEGAL answer NOW.

I've had long guns in my house for many years even during my event.

You guys have provided me with excellent information and great advice.
I will see a lawyer in the near future for an explanation of the 11.i.

I will let you know how my lawyer interprets that section.

Thanks

They are serious about this, in the Army if this happens, you carry a rubber gun in training and are barred from reenlistment.
Being the highly talented diversified genius that I am, I trouble myself in my daily pursuits of multiple subjects to do, many times confused I do nothing at all.

I will say this but would get a lawyer opinion on it. If you are determined on self defense but have a dv conviction. I would look at black powder pistols they fall under different laws and or exempt at times. No background check need Dixie gun works will ship to your front door. I would hate to carry cap and ball but I promise it worked in the civil war killing 600000 id say it will work today. but I agree get with a lawyer and be ready for law enforcement to scratch there head at the law and possibly harass you.

There should be something necessary for a person who is applying for carry permit needs to see a psychologist If he is passed by him then he proceed to take concealed carry classes for permit. But govt is busy selling firearms without education the society when to take a carry with or not. Our civilians have enough firearms to fight a war against half world. I found out their is a retired marine who is giving classes for concealed carry permit and the students are tested physically as well as mentally. (horse)
